VFW Post 9936 Creates Family-Friendly Haunted House
As part of effort to raise funds to repair building.

Dayton, OH:  On weekends during the month of October, a former funeral parlor turned VFW Post will be doubly haunted.  In an effort to raise funds to repair the building, the VFW has created a family-friendly haunted house.  The building itself is allegedly haunted, a Mr. Thompson and his kin, have been sought out by ghost-hunters and the topic of local urban legends.

The haunted house fundraiser is also sponsored by outside venues, like Gravity Spa on October 18th.  Gravity Spa provides a program free for veterans who suffer from PTSD.  Local organizations and artists are also contributing to the haunted house.  Each weekend a different non-profit or volunteers will contribute to the haunted house.  For example, a special night, on Saturday, October 19th, local stand-up comics will trick and treat visitors and perform clean family-friendly stand-up routines starting at 8pm.  Plus, each week acting talent are in new and different costumes for visitors who wish to come back.

Recent pressure to stay within the VFW organization means that the building has to be up to code.  Given its location, in the Huffman Historical District, the goal is to restore the building to its former glory and maintain the Post as a neighborhood landmark for veterans and community events.

To successfully raise funds and function as a VFW Post, “Restoration Fundraiser One” has be divided into benchmarks to meet the end goal of roughly $200K USD.

$30K for the first-stage roofing front part of building that faces Third Street.
$50K for the decorative shingles and windows on the building facade.
$30K for the second-stage roofing back part of building.
$90K for the concrete work.

The haunted house tour is comprised of four main rooms: Scary X-mas Room, Doll Room, Scout Room, and the Mad Doctor Room.  Visitors will have to follow their guide through multiple levels.  A video preview for parents is available on YouTube.

Cost is $10 for a Veteran Family $15 for others.  For those who sign-up to be a VFW Member, admission is free (including family).  Tickets can be purchased in advanced through facebook eventbrite for Saturday, October 19th event, That’s Ghould: A Comic Haunted House.
